Whitby is a thriving market town with plenty going on, and just a stone’s throw from the rolling hills and trails of the national park. Explore the shops and cafes or why not try a famous Fish and Chips, or take a walk up the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey which has stood on East Cliffe since 647 AD.
The birth place of Dracula and famous Captain Cook, you can visit his statue and the famous Whale Bone monument which is on the West Cliffe a 20 minute walk away Whitby has been a rich tapestry of historical and cultural figures for more than thirteen centuries and the railway in 1839 brought its first flock of tourists to the area.
Whitby Golf Club with its 9 hole golf course nearby is half a mile away – just half a mile away from the property - also nearby is Raithwaite Estate hotel where you can go for cocktails and afternoon tea and visit their spa.
Visit Whitby Abbey, on the East Cliff 2 miles away and climb the 199 steps and visit the birthplace of Dracula himself - atmospheric to say the least, it is a great place to soak in the ambience and enjoy the views. Speaking of views, 4 miles away is Robin Hood's Bay - an old Smugglers Village with sweeping vistas across the sea, and it is also known for its dinosaur fossils. It is absolutely worth a trip, especially with a picnic basket in tow. This is a dog friendly beach.
For a special twist, head off at night and visit Dalby Forest, 16 miles away. One of the best dark sky discovery sites in the country, the Milky Way can be seen by the naked eye. Or take a drive to Northumberland and discover Harry Potter’s Castle.
The location is perfect for exploring both the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Heritage Coast which is known for its connections with Captain James Cook. Whitby boasts a 3-mile stretch of Sandy Beach, a colourful Harbour and a Marina, all overlooked and almost protected by the 12th-century Abbey ruins and St Mary’s church. It has fabulous independent shops selling a variety of goods.
